"FAIR HARBOR'S BRAVEST" RESPOND TO FIRE ISLAND PINES BLAZEAt around 9:15 Monday evening, November 14, a fast moving fire destroyed the Pavilion and at least two other structures in the Fire Island Pines commercial district. Dozens of firefighters from the several Fire Island communities; as well as fire companies from East Islip, West Islip, Hagerman, Sayville, Bellport, Great River and Bay Shore responded. There were no reported injuries. We are proud that 13 members of our own Fair Harbor Fire Department responded to the blaze, with one pumper, a firefighting "mule" (all-terrain vehicle) and 2 chiefs' cars. Using a "surround and drown" operation, "Fair Harbor's Bravest" fought the fire for nearly 6 hours, until 3:00 a.m. Thank you, Fair Harbor Fire Department, for your quick response and hard work. Your sense of duty to the people and communities of Fire Island is greatly appreciated.
